Organisers of Isle of Man Cyclefest presented by Isle of Man Bank are delighted to announce that exciting young Trad group TRIP will perform at Milntown this May as part of the PokerStars entertainment.
All currently in their first year at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the six members of TRIP began playing together through informal sessions back in September 2016. With a shared love of traditional music, the young musicians instantly clicked and the group’s musical journey began, seamlessly mixing the cultures and traditions of Scotland, England, Ireland and the Isle of Man.
With such a musical background, it’s no wonder then that TRIP already boast an impressively varied and expansive sound. Along with versatile accompaniment by fellow Scots, Rory Matheson (piano) and Craig Baxter (bodhran), TRIP’s combination of melodies from Manx fiddler Isla Callister, Newcastle accordionist Michael Biggins and Sligo flautist Tiernan Courell go to produce a powerful, driven and energetic sound that contrasts from fast jigs and reels to captivating Gaelic song, with Lewis singer Mairi Maclennan adding her beautiful vocals to the group’s armoury.
TRIP’s debut live performances came during this year’s Celtic Connections in the group’s home of Glasgow. Keeping impressive company during the festival, TRIP have already made a huge impression and look to make a big impact in 2017, their first full year together.
TRIP will be playing Sunday 14th May on Cyclefest’s Village Stage, which is supported by Isle of Man Arts Council. Wristband tickets are on sale now with prices starting from just £10 for adults with discounts available across weekend tickets and family bundles.
